    This is a rare April 1970 playbill from the
    Original Broadway production of the DALE WASSERMAN, MITCH LEIGH and JOE DARION musical "MAN OF LA MANCHA" at the Martin Beck Theatre in New York City. (The production opened November 22nd, 1965 at
    the ANTA Washington Square Theatre, transferred on March 20th, 1968 to the Martin Beck Theatre, moved to the Eden Theatre on March 3rd, 1971 and the Mark Hellinger Theatre on May 26th, 1971 where it closed on June 26th, 1971
    after 2728 performances.) ..... Winner of five Tony Awards including "Best Musical", the show starred SOMEGORO ICHIKAWA as "Don Quixote", the role he had originated in the Tokyo production the previous year. Ichikawa made his Broadway debut in "Man of La Mancha" and played the role for ten weeks, March 2nd, 1970 through May 9th, 1970.
