Description
WWII 385th Bomb Group B-17 PILOT Medals, Photo's, Diary, Paper GroupingThe pilot named Robert Bensing, was assigned to the 385th BG. It contains his handwritten notes (around 70 pages) including several missions, his medals (unnamed), his wings and 2 pieces of Flak he removed from his plane and twenty original photos. Also a book written by a member of his crew containing several typewritten additions he added inside the book.
Group also includes the period newspaper article and 2-pages (photocopied) regarding his award of his fifth oak leaf cluster. Some of the photos also have handwritten captions or notes on the back.
Bensing flew 36 missions from November 1944 until the end of the war. His handwritten notes start in February 1945, but they give a very good idea of his experience and his daily life. His notes show that the 1945 missions flown, were not only "milk runs" as many people think.
The Ryker case is not included
